Information Leaflet (PDF 195KB)

This unique Semester Start-up Programme offers international students an interdisciplinary module (Understanding Ireland) in history, archaeology, art, architecture, classical studies and literature which is an excellent introduction to Ireland and to Irish culture. The academic staff of the School of Histories and Humanities facilitate the programme, which runs for three weeks in September.

The three principal strands are as follows:

  1. Irish History: 1000-2000
  2. Classical Studies, Archaeology, Art and Architecture
  3. Irish Writers through the Ages

The Programme includes lectures, tutorials and field trips around Dublin and to other parts of Ireland such as the Boyne Valley and Kilkenny, as well as a range of social evenings to cultural venues such as theatres and typical Dublin pubs.

The Semester Start-up Programme is a most enjoyable and informative introduction to Ireland and will greatly benefit international students. 5 ECTS credits are awarded on successful completion of the programme.
