Entrance requirements
- For admission into an undergraduate degree programme at Trinity College Dublin, non-EU applicants must have completed a second level/high school qualification which is considered to be equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate. Please contact the International Admissions Desk to confirm that your national qualification satisfies the general entrance requirements.
- All applicants must fulfil the equivalent of the general matriculation requirements, which includes pass grades in English, mathematics and a language other than English. Below are the entrance requirements for internationally used school-leaving certificates (IB, A-levels) and for some national qualifications (US and Canada). Please note that these are minimum entrance requirements only and where places are competitive, a student must have excellent examination results to qualify for a place on their preferred course.
- In addition to meeting general entrance requirements, applicants must satisfy course specific requirements (where applicable). Please see undergraduate prospectus for subject requirements.
- Students whose first language is not English have to display a high level of competence in the English language – see English language proficiency entry requirements
- Below we have listed specific entry requirements for students from particular countries/ examination systems:
International Baccalaureate (IB)
Minimum Matriculation
3 subjects at grade 5 at Higher Level and 3 subjects at grade 4 at Standard Level, to include English, mathematics and another language plus specific programme requirements.
NB: If a course has a maths requirement at ordinary level students must present maths at Standard Level. If a course has a maths requirement at higher level students must present Mathematics at Higher Level. Maths Studies satisfies matriculation requirements only.
English Language Competence
English A1, A2 or B: 5 at Higher Level (4 at Standard Level if presenting IB through English) or see full list of acceptable English Language qualifications.

Points for entry to TCD are calculated by the following equation: (total IB points (including bonus points) / 45) x 600

USA
To be eligible for consideration applicants will be required to present the following:
| SAT Reasoning Test | A minimum score of 1300 on any two of the Critical Reading, Math and Writing sections and no score less than 500. Some courses may admit applicants with a combined score of 1250 on any two sections. |
