Research

'Oliver Goldsmith's historical work'
My research focuses on the earliest historical work of Oliver Goldsmith (An History of England in a Series of Letters from a Nobleman to His Son). I will examine history writing as a genre during the eighteenth century and explore the place this particular work occupies within that genre. Fundamentally, it will respond to the following queries: what is Goldsmith's work attempting to convey and why, and how, does it achieve this? My work will combine reflections on the Enlightenment, the history of writing, and the philosophy of history.
