Research

‘Johann Ulmer’s Schaffhausen: Reform between Luther and Bullinger’
While literature focusing on the main centres of reform and leading reformers of the sixteenth century is vast, comparatively limited attention has been paid to how local reformers negotiated between different reform movements. My thesis will use a broad range of printed and archival sources to analyse the career of Johann Conrad Ulmer. I will examine how Ulmer led the church at Schaffhausen, a town influenced by both Zwinglian and Lutheran influences. I have other research interests on the reception of antiquity in architecture, literature, art and philosophy in early modern Europe.
