This course provides an introduction to palaeography of the English hand to 1700. It includes a comprehensive chronological survey of the major European scripts. Full bibliography for the major European languages is provided. No knowledge of Latin is assumed and assistance will be given with technical vocabulary and abbreviations. The course aims to equip the graduate with the research tools and practical experience of transcription required of the twenty-first century researcher.
