Trinity Academics to Highlight Postgraduate Opportunities in Upcoming Visit to Hong Kong

Academics from a range of disciplines will be on hand to talk you through the various course options and the application process. Interested applicants should email Trinity’s Regional Officer for China, Susan Phillips at susan.phillips@tcd.ie, in advance to arrange an appointment.  Academics will meet students in a central hotel in Hong Kong on Thursday 7th March between 6.30 – 8pm.

Dancing and Riddles Planned for Chinese New Year Celebrations

Trinity College Dublin will celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Snake on Tuesday February 12th next. The celebrations will kick off with a traditional Dragon dance in Front Square at 1pm, believed to bring good luck. A series of other event will also take place in the Examination Hall between 1-3.30pm. Highlights will include calligraphy, Chinese riddles, traditional lanterns, a Han costume show and traditional Chinese cuisine. All welcome.

Annual Public Lecture in American History questions "Democracy and Money in America: A Historical Perspective on the Election of 2012"

The presidential contest between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney will easily be the most expensive in history. The Supreme Court’s landmark 2010 decision in the “Citizens United” case overturned important campaign finance regulations. Now individual and corporate donors can make unlimited financial contributions to electoral campaigns through “Super Pacs,” which have funded countless advertisements this election cycle.

Trinity to Provide Singapore's First Degrees in Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy

In the first international collaboration of its kind for Trinity College Dublin, it will provide degrees in occupational therapy and physiotherapy to students in Singapore. Trinity College Dublin and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) signed a partnership this week, offering the degrees that are designed, taught and awarded by Trinity College Dublin. The signing of the agreement was witnessed by the Minister for Health in Singapore, Mr Gan Kim Yong, Singapore.

Tribute to Professor Yash Chopra, Bollywood Legend

The College community, and in particular the Vice Provost for Global Relations Professor Jane Ohlmeyer, extend their deepest sympathies to the family of Professor Yash Chopra who passed away suddenly on Sunday October 21st last.  Chopra was a highly accomplished man who achieved much during a career that spanned five decades.  Our thoughts are with his family and colleagues at this difficult time.

Trinity College Dublin is Ranked 110th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2012

Trinity College Dublin has risen to 110th place in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2012 announced today, up seven places on last year. These are the second set of prestigious rankings in which Trinity College has scored highly. Last month the College ranked in 67th place in the QS World University Rankings 2012.

Award Winning Bollywood Film Director Visits Trinity College Dublin

Kabir Khan, award winning film director, recently returned to Dublin to hold a Bollywood master class followed by a Q&A session with students and staff from the university. The event was chaired by Professor Kevin Rockett from Trinity's School of Drama, Film and Music.

President Emeritus of the Pittsburgh Steelers in USA, Dr Daniel Rooney, Presents Dramatist Nancy Harris with Rooney Prize 2012

The Rooney Prize is awarded annually to a young Irish writer who shows exceptional promise. It has existed since 1976 through the generosity of Dr Daniel Rooney, President Emeritus of the Pittsburgh Steelers, USA and the current Ambassador to Ireland of the United States of America and of his wife Mrs Patricia Rooney

Trinity Student Wins International Biology Award

Recent graduate of the School of Natural Sciences, Sive Finlay, was announced as the winner of the Best Biology Student 2012 in the Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) Awards, following an interview with a Society of Biology judging panel.  The SET awards provide a showcase for educational excellence by publicly recognising the exceptional achievements of both students and universities.

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs & Trade Launches Trinity's Global Relations Strategy

Trinity College Dublin's Global Relation Strategy aims to build on Trinity’s strong international reputation for research, teaching and innovation in its mission to be a university of global consequence. The University appointed a Vice-Provost for Global Relations, Professor Jane Ohlmeyer, to lead the implementation of the strategy work which has resulted in the opening of ‘global gateways’ in New York, New Delhi and Shanghai.

Trinity College Dublin Welcomes the EAIE Conference to the City

The European Association for International Education’s (EAIE) 24th Annual Conference, will take place in Dublin from11th - 14th September 2012 next and Trinity College Dublin would like to welcome all conference delegates to make the short journey from the Convention Centre to visit our historic city centre campus and get a feel for what a Trinity education can offer. Trinity Hosts Global Ireland Football Tournament Pep Rally

Over 2,000 people participating in a colourful Pep Rally for the Global Ireland Football Tournament (GIFT) gathered in Front Square on August 30th last. Whilst not directly connected with the 2012 Emerald Isle Classic (Notre Dame v Navy Football) in the Aviva Stadium, the GIFT tournament was organised to bring 12 Championship high school and college American football teams to Ireland to take part in a series of American football matches on August 31st.

Student Volunteers from Trinity Celebrate Ten Years of the Suas Educational Development Programme in Kolkata

Suas Educational Development was originally founded in 2002 by students from Trinity College Dublin who believed that the best way of making a difference was through education.  Each year since, the Volunteer Programme has given young students an opportunity to support the education of children in schools that serve some of the most marginalised communities in India.

Fulbright Awards Available for Postgraduate Study and Research in the USA

The Fulbright Commission in Ireland has officially invited applications for the the 2013 - 2014 competition for Fulbright Awards which include a monetary grant for post-graduate students, scholars, and professionals to travel to the US to lecture, research, and study for a maximum period of one year.  Trinity College Dublin students and staff have a successful history in receiving Fullbright Awards.

Bollywood's Most Influential Film Maker, Yash Chopra, Receives Honorary Professorship from Trinity College Dublin, Marking 100 Years of Bollywood Film

The prestigious award, which recognises Mr Chopra’s outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, popular culture, globalisation and cultural exchange, was conferred on the veteran filmmaker by the university’s Vice President for Global Relations, Professor Jane Ohlmeyer.

Bollywood Film Shot on Location at Trinity College Dublin Launches in India and Dublin

The Bollywood film, Ek Tha Tiger, shot on location at Trinity College Dublin will be launched in India and Dublin this week. The first ever Bollywood blockbuster to be made in Ireland, featuring two of Bollywood’s biggest stars, Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan, will have special screening events across India – Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Dehli – as well as Dublin. Trinity Researchers Play Central Role in Search for Higgs Boson

Researchers in the Computer Architecture and Grid Research group in Trinity College Dublin's School of Computer Science and Statistics were part of the global effort to analyse the data generated by the Large Hadron Collider experiment and played a key role in the analysis leading to the recent announcement by CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, of the Higgs Boson. Indian Tempest Headlines Trinity Shakespeare Festival 2012

Trinity Physicist Finds New Way to Pack Spheres Efficiently

New collaborative research has revealed the most efficient method to date for packing spherical objects into a cylinder.  Dr Ho-Kei Chan, a Research Fellow from the Foams and Complex Systems research group at Trinity’s School of Physics, has developed an algorithm for sphere packing which finds an arrangement in which the spheres fit as densely as possible into the cylinder provided, an issue that has a broad range of applications.  Read More...

The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Announces Public Scholarships

The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation is offering six scholarships to Irish third level students for the academic year 2012/2013. One scholarship is offered for study at Bachelor, Master’s and specialist programmes and one scholarship is offered on post-graduate programmes (internship, clinical studies) and doctoral programmes. Trinity Students Celebrate the Colourful Festival of Holi

Students at Trinity College Dublin marked the spring festival of Holi, the Hindu festival of colours, with a celebration in Front Square yesterday that saw students throw coloured powder at each other. Organised by Trinity's Indian Society, the Trinity celebrations for the Holi festival aimed to embrace and promote multiculturalism within the College and Ireland. Trinity Researchers Launch New Smartphone Application for Viewing Images of the Sun

Researchers from Trinity's School of Physics and School of Computer Science and Statistics celebrated the launch of a new Smartphone version of SolarMonitor.org, that allows you to view the most recent NASA and European Space Agency (ESA) images of the Sun from your Smartphone. The group, led by Trinity solar physicist, Dr Peter Gallagher, launched the application at the annual European Space Weather Week conference in Belgium recently. Read More...
