Singaporean students of physiotherapy graduated last week surrounded by family and friends. The new physiotherapy programme is designed, taught and awarded by Trinity College Dublin and delivered in Singapore in partnership with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT).

US First Lady, Michelle Obama and Daughters Visit Trinity College Dublin
The First Lady of the United States of America,Michelle Obama and her two daughters, Sasha and Malia, visited Trinity College Dublin recently and took a tour of the Old Library where they were given a presentation on their own family genealogy and connections to Ireland. Ireland's leading university was the first visit for the family as part of their itinerary in Ireland.

Over 30,000 Visitors Explore European Space Expo at Trinity College Dublin
Over 30,000 people of all ages visited the European Space Expo at Trinity College Dublin last week where they were able to experience the wonders of space through interactive exhibits and learn how space science can benefit us all. The travelling space exhibition landed in Trinity's historic Front Square having visited over twelve European cities during the past year.

Trinity Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Africa Day with International Conferencence
On 24 May, Trinity College Dublin hosted its fifth annual Africa Day conference. The Trinity International Development Initiative (TIDI) organized the Africa Rising: New Paradigms in Development in Post-2015 Africa conference as part of the annual programme of Africa Day events. The international conference held in Trinity College Dublin focused on the success of health, economics, green economy and human rights strategies in Africa.

Trinity Programs Strong in QS World University Subject Rankings
Trinity College Dublin ranks in the top 50 in four subjects and top 100 in a further eleven areas according to the recently released QS Subject Rankings 2013. The College's leading 50 subjects include English, Language & Literature in 28th place worldwide; 31st in Politics and International studies; 33rd in History and 42ndin Modern Languages.

Trinity College Dublin Shakespeare Festival 2013 Launches
The lineup for the fifth Trinity College Dublin Shakespeare Festival was launched today in Trinity's Old Library and featured student actors dressed as famous Shakespearian characters.The festival, which will run from the 3rd to 8th June, aims to bring the works of Shakespeare out into the streets and schools of Dublin in an imaginative and exciting way.

Four Trinity students have been selected from more than 525 applicants to participate in the 2013 Washington Ireland Programme (WIP). The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formed part of a government led trade mission to Turkey led by Ireland's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Eamon Gilmore.

Trinity College Dublin has jumped into the top 50 of the recently published 2013 Leiden Rankings taking 48th place in the world and 9th in Europe. This is a marked increase of 15 places from 63rd place in the world last year.

Trinity Joins the Red Rickshaw Revolution!
On March 9th 2013 two Irish women will embark on a nine day rickshaw journey across India that will see them cover 1500km and five Indian states. The journey from Delhi to Mumbai will highlight 'ordinary women doing extraordinary things' across India and aims to raise awareness and funds for three NGOs - Apne Aap Women's Collective (AAWC), Breakthrough and Corp India. Trinity College Dublin has been named as an Outreach Partner of AAWC, a charity supported by Coleman Deegan, a Trinity alumnus living and working in a large multinational corporation in India.

Dancing and Riddles Planned for Chinese New Year Celebrations
Trinity College Dublin will celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Snake on Tuesday February 12th next. The celebrations will kick off with a traditional Dragon dance in Front Square at 1pm, believed to bring good luck. A series of other event will also take place in the Examination Hall between 1-3.30pm. Highlights will include calligraphy, Chinese riddles, traditional lanterns, a Han costume show and traditional Chinese cuisine. All welcome.

World Cancer Day Highlights Trinity's Progress in Cancer Research
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, claiming almost 7.6 million lives worldwide in 2012 alone. The issue of cancer is highlighted annually by organisations around the world during World Cancer Day which took place this year on February 4th. At Trinity College Dublin, integrated multidisciplinary research is taking place that aims to understand the causes of cancer, and develop interventions and preventions against the disease.

Trinity Hosts Global Ireland Football Tournament Pep Rally
Over 2,000 people participating in a colourful Pep Rally for the Global Ireland Football Tournament (GIFT) gathered in Front Square on August 30th last. Whilst not directly connected with the 2012 Emerald Isle Classic (Notre Dame v Navy Football) in the Aviva Stadium, the GIFT tournament was organised to bring 12 Championship high school and college American football teams to Ireland to take part in a series of American football matches on August 31st.

Trinity Physicist Finds New Way to Pack Spheres Efficiently
New collaborative research has revealed the most efficient method to date for packing spherical objects into a cylinder. Dr Ho-Kei Chan, a Research Fellow from the Foams and Complex Systems research group at Trinity’s School of Physics, has developed an algorithm for sphere packing which finds an arrangement in which the spheres fit as densely as possible into the cylinder provided, an issue that has a broad range of applications. Trinity College Dublin students will be carrying the Olympic Flame on June 6th next through the streets of Dublin as part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay. Trinity Students Celebrate the Colourful Festival of Holi
Students at Trinity College Dublin marked the spring festival of Holi, the Hindu festival of colours, with a celebration in Front Square yesterday that saw students throw coloured powder at each other. Organised by Trinity's Indian Society, the Trinity celebrations for the Holi festival aimed to embrace and promote multiculturalism within the College and Ireland. Dublin Ranked in Top Ten Best Student Cities in the World
Dublin has been named one of the best student cities in the world by the first global rankings of student cities published recently by QS. Only cities with populations of more than 250,000 and home to two or more ranked universities were analysed by researchers who took into consideration quality of living, affordability and reputation of the university amongst other indicators. Trinity Researchers Launch New Smartphone Application for Viewing Images of the Sun
Researchers from Trinity's School of Physics and School of Computer Science and Statistics celebrated the launch of a new Smartphone version of SolarMonitor.org, that allows you to view the most recent NASA and European Space Agency (ESA) images of the Sun from your Smartphone. The group, led by Trinity solar physicist, Dr Peter Gallagher, launched the application at the annual European Space Weather Week conference in Belgium recently. Read More...
