Dr Juliette Hussey, the Vice President of Global Relations, presented students from the School of Nursing & Midwifery’s 2018 International Winter School with their certificates of completion at a recent closing ceremony. The successful programme, in which 19 students from the University of Scranton, Pennsylvania and 3 students from Taipei Medical University in Taiwan participated, ran from the 8th to the 19th of January 2018.
The International Winter School programme provides participants with opportunities to explore the world of Irish nursing; learn about different healthcare structures and contemporary health problems in Ireland; meet Trinity nursing students in a round table exchange of student experiences; meet leading researchers and discover what innovative practices are being developed; experience how culture, lifestyle and quality of life affect health in Ireland; as well as cultural visits to the historic Book of Kells. The programme is tailored for groups of undergraduate nursing students in higher education institutions who are interested in exploring different cultures and obtaining a global view of nursing as part of their university programme. The two-week intensive programme is run in January and May (the International Summer School Programme) each year
The 2018 Winter programme closed with a debate entitled "This house believes that you receive better healthcare in Ireland than in the USA or Taiwan". The Head of the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Prof. Anne-Marie Brady and the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Mary McCarron were in also attendance.
