Trinity Global Engagement AwardsThe Trinity Global Engagement Awards aim to recognise the exceptional contribution made by staff to global education, cultural understanding and global experiences that directly benefits the Trinity community, raising Trinity’s profile and supporting the development of students into global citizens. The awards will honour staff members who have distinguished him/herself in their work, and acts as an inspiration to others and a means of highlighting the value of this work to both internal and external audiences.
Awards are presented at an event hosted by the Provost and please find a list of Awardees below:
2018 - Professor Zuleika Rodgers; Professor Charles Patterson and Professor Hongzhou Zhang
2017 - Dr John Gormley; Cliona Hannon; Dr Brian Foley; Ms Doris Alexander and Ms Jennifer Taaffe
2016 - Professor Mauro Ferreira; Professor Kevin Kelly and Professor Daniel Faas
Three academics received a Certificate of Excellence to mark their significant contribution to Trinity’s Global Engagement activities. They were Professor Rosemary Byrne from the School of Law, Professor Nigel Stevenson from the School of Medicine, and Professor Fabio Boylan from the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Awardees must have a demonstrated record in promoting significant international understanding, global engagement, international relationship building and education as evidenced by demonstrating excellence in the following criteria:
- Global relationship building that has led to strategic partnerships, student or staff mobility opportunities for their School;
- Activities that contribute to the planning, design, or development of innovations in international educational and global outreach programs;
- Collaboration with peers and colleagues from outside Ireland in ways which advance the University’s reputation in the world; and may include technical assistance, program development and administration, teaching, or research;
- Demonstrated leadership role in global fundraising for the University;
Applicants for the Global Engagement Awards must demonstrate excellence in three of the four criteria.
In addition to these criteria, applicants must demonstrate their contribution to the development of interdisciplinary relationships internationally which uphold Trinity’s founding values and support the spirit of scholarly collegiality.
Important traits of applicants include the ability to identify innovative educational opportunities; a passion for encouraging colleagues, students and staff to engage in international activities both on campus and globally; and / or serving the global community as a leader in their field.
The Review Panel
The review panel is chaired by the Vice President for Global Relations and comprise of four appointed nominees, including an external candidate and a representative from the international student body.
Up to three awards are be given each year and the awards are open to both current and past academic or administrative staff members. Winners, and their nominator (where applicable), will be invited to an award ceremony hosted by the Provost.
