COLURFUL WEEK PLANNED FOR ÉIGSE NA TRÍONÓIDE, TCD’S IRISH LANGUAGE FESTIVAL

Trinity College Dublin’s Cumann Gaelach, in association with the Irish Language Office, are delighted to announce the programme for this year’s Éigse na Tríonóide festival. An exciting week is planned for the Éigse, in the heart of the capital city, and events are open to all.  This Irish language celebration will run from Monday 27th to Friday 31st January. At least four events will be held each day through Irish and there will be something for everybody and every taste.

An energising start to each day will be provided each morning in Seomra na Gaeilge with free pancakes or toast, and tea.

ON MONDAY, Dublin’s Lord Mayor Oisín Quinn will join us for the Release of Balloons in Front Square, providing a colourful start to the celebrations. At 1.15pm in Seomra na Gaeilge, Linda Ervine from the East Belfast Mission will give a most interesting talk on the growth of interest in Irish in East Belfast in recent times. After this, there will be a trip to Dáil Éireann. People will gather at 6pm in Seomra na Gaeilge for the official launch of the Éigse- featuring music, refreshments and craic. Professor Alan Titley will be our guest speaker.

ON TUESDAY morning, there will be a coffee morning for staff in the School of Education, and a Scottish Gaelic Taster class at 11am in Seomra na Gaeilge. The highlight of the day on Tuesday will be an Debate in Seomra na Gaeilge with special guest speakers.  Traditional Irish culture will be to the fore at 4pm with a Sean-Nós workshop, and a film in Irish will be shown at 6pm.
ON WEDNESDAY morning, run around with us from 10.00am when people in College will be trying to catch the "Fugitive Gaelach". Take it easy then with free coffee at Wednesday @ The Buttery. Nobody will go hungry on Wednesday, as free soup and lunch will be provided in Seomra na Gaeilge from 1pm!

On Wednesday night, the highlight of the week’s events will be GIG MÓR NA HÉIGSE DO PHÁDRAIG SCHALER, with members of Kila, Seo Linn and the Trinitones, as we raise finds at the Workman’s Club on Wellington Quay. There will be dancing. There will be music. There will be great craic. Don’t miss out!

ON THURSDAY, there will be a Table Quiz competition between Staff and Students of the College, at 1.30pm. Enjoy an afternoon of Games at 3pm. For those worn out, there will be beautiful singing to be heard at Urnaí na Nóna (Choral Evensong in Irish) in the College Chapel at 5.15, followed by a reception in the Chaplaincy (House 27).

ON FRIDAY 31st January, the Cumann Gaelach choir will come together for Mass in the College Chapel at 1.05pm. We will be praying for victory in the Colours Gaelic Football Match  between TCD and visitors from UCD at 2.30pm!
