History and Culture of Medicine

Ireland, Medicine and the World
A programme of research within the field of History and Culture of Medicine is currently being developed. The programme will link to the introduction of a suite of new undergraduate and postgraduate courses tailored to the needs of students in both the Health Sciences and the Humanities.
The programme will:
• Establish electives in the History and Culture of Medicine for medical students
• Develop relationships with the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland, the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, and the Health Service Executive
• Develop a lectureship in the History and Culture of Medicine/Health
• Appoint a post doctoral fellow to support research capacity building
• Establish a full Chair in Medical History and Culture
Funding elements which are currently being sought include: a Lectureship €100,000 p.a. (10 years); Post Doctoral Fellow €50,000 p.a.(5 years); Digitisation and cataloguing, €300,000; sponsorship of a new publication 300 years of Medicine at Trinity, €50,000; International Conference: ‘Ireland medicine and the world’, €50,000.
