Fly a Kite for Women's Rights - International Women's Week Launch

Details: Vice-Provost Linda Hogan will be launching International Women's Week 2012 in Front Square. We will be celebrating Fly a Kite for Women's Rights in Afghanistan in collaboration with DU Amnesty. International Women's week is an opportunity to participate in a global event for rights and equality. Come and join us to fly a kite for women's rights - kites will be provided.
Why Kite flying? The popular pastime of kite flying in Afghanistan was banned under the Taleban rule. Since then, kite flying has once again become popular; yet while women and girls can make kites, they still do not have the freedom to fly them. The kite symbolises the discrimination that still confronts women and girls in Afghanistan for more information see www.amnesty.org
