MONDAY 7thPoetry @CGWSDetails: CGWS invite you to join renowned Italian poet and PhD student Anna Lombardo for a talk on Women and Poetry. Film screening: Vogliamo anche le roseDetails: Showing of a film, Vogliamo anche le rose, introduced by Emer Delany. This film is a testament to the resolve of women of the ’60s and ’70s sexual revolution and feminist movement in Italy. Director Alina Marazzi takes viewers on a journey through archival footage, advertisements, and colorful images juxtaposed with the true-life struggles and first person narrations of three diverse Italian women. Organizer: Brenda Donohue TUESDAY 8thGraduate Students' Union - Coffee Morning in support of Women's Aid Details: The Graduate Students' Union would like to invite students, staff and friends to come and enjoy a morning treat in their beautiful Common Room in House 7. They shall be collecting donations (big and small) to support the organisation Women's Aid. Any discourse on feminist issues is strongly welcomed! Healthy Eating, Exercise and Well Being Talk Details: Mark McGuaran will give a free talk to women on International Women’s Day Tuesday 8th March from 12.30- 1.30pm in our Board Room. The talk is entitled 'Nutrition Works' which will include topics such as the stress of modern living, the low fat movement and the case for an alkalising diet. Avatar: Spaying EveDetails: Screening of Avatar, introduced by Dr. Mary Condren (TBC) and discussion led by Elske Rahill (MPhil student 2009/10) based on her work entitled ‘Avatar: Spaying Eve’. DU Amnesty Lantern launchDetails:DU Amnesty International will be releasing 50 pink lanterns into the sky, all of them commemorating female human rights activists from around the world. Many of these will be released by prominent female members of staff from around the college. Launch of UN Women with Tayyibah TaylorDetails: Talk with Tayyibah Taylor, US author and women's rights activist, Mahid Sefidvash, Chair of UN Women and Dr Roja Fazaeli, Trinity College Dublin, for the official launch of UN Women. Staff and students are welcome to attend. Keith Farnane 'Sex Traffic: How much is that woman in the window?'Details:This Tuesday is the 100th International Women’s Day. To celebrate this TCDSU & Trinity Ents, in conjunction with Amnesty International are putting on a FREE comedy gig in the Synge Theatre on Tuesday at 8pm. Keith Farnan’s show is entitled “Sex Traffic: How much is that woman in the window?” and sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year. WEDNESDAY 9thGlór na mBan i dTraidisiún na nGael / Women’s Voices in the Gaelic Tradition Details: The College Equality Office and Irish Language Office invite you to participate in a special bilingual event to celebrate women’s voices in the Gaelic tradition as part of International Women’s Day and Lá na Gaeilge celebrations. Glór na mBan will bring together poetry and song in the Gaelic tradition featuring poet Celia de Fréine and singers Naisrín and Zahrah Elsafty. The Elsaftys will sing songs reflecting their Irish and Arabic heritage. Come and join us by the fireside in Dining Hall for a unique cultural event. Booking required. Glór na mBan i dTraidisiún na nGael A Night of Prose ReadingDetails: From the success of last year's prose event, The Irish Writer's Centre are delighted to host the Night of Women's Prose in conjunction with IWD 2011. The night will offer an eclectic array of women's writing with themes of lust, violence, motherhood and the ever changing face of life in Ireland. The night is a celebration of woman's voice in Ireland. The night's proceeds will go to Aki DWA - African Women's Network of Ireland- who will be reading an excerpt from 'Herstory'. The event is open admission, with the night's raffle sponsored by Orla Kiely. THURSDAY 10thWomen’s Movements in Western EuropeDetails: A panel discussion on women's movements in Western Europe from the 1970s to today. Ireland, Germany and Spain will be represented and compared by our speakers. Second wave feminism and its evolution under different cultural perspectives will notably be looked at. Speakers : Madeline Hawke (Irish Feminist Network), Wiebke Frieß and Janina Johannsen (Centre for Gender Studies in Hamburg, Germany, and authors of the magazine KRASS - Kritische Assoziationen), Dr. Catherine M. O'Leary (NUI Maynooth, Department of Spanish). Chaired by Dr Kathleen McTiernan (CGWS) Graduate Students' Union - Film NightDetails: The Graduate Students' Union welcome all students, staff and friends to a film night in the Synge Theatre on Thursday evening. They will be showing either 'The Piano' or 'Caramel' and the audience can vote for their preference. The evening will include a lively and thought provoking introduction from PhD Candidate; Ciara Barrett from The Department of Film Studies FRIDAY 11THScreening of the film "Water" by Deepa MehtaDetails: Deepa Mehta's film tells the life of Chuyia, an eight-year old widow, in an Indian ashram in the late 1930s (2005).
