College Policies

Trinity College aims to provide an inclusive environment which promotes equality and values diversity in all aspects of College activity.

College has developed several policies relating to equality for both staff and students in compliance with legal requirements under the Employment Equality Act 1998-2010, Equal Status Act 2000-2010, Disability Act 2005, and Universities Act 1997.

Equality Policy

The purpose of the Equality Policy is to outline College’s commitment to promoting equality in all aspects of its activity: employment, education and service provision; and to detail how this policy will be implemented.

College is committed to the continued development of policies, procedures and practices which do not discriminate the nine protected grounds of the Employment and Equal Status Acts. This policy outlines the actions the College will take to identify and remove any barriers to accessing and participating in College as a student or staff member or service user.

Dignity and Respect

The College is committed to supporting a collegiate environment for its staff, students and other community Front cover of Dignity and REspectmembers, which is free from discrimination, bullying and harassment. College has published the Dignity and Respect Policy that details:

  • roles and responsibilities for maintaining a collegiate environment,
  • sources of help,
  • a framework and procedures for addressing any issues that arise, including informal and formal complaint procedures.

This policy applies to all members of the College community – staff, students and visitors, and failure to comply could result in disciplinary action.

A panel of contact persons has been appointed by the Board and members are available to provide confidential advice.

Code of Practice applying to the Employment of People with Disabilities in Trinity College Dublin

The purpose of this Code of Practice is to provide a guideline for College Departments as to how the College's Equal Employment Policy should be interpreted regarding people with disabilities who are currently on the staff of the College, or who may be applying for posts in College.

Accessible Information Policy

College adopted an Accessible Information Policy to fulfill its obligations under the Disability Act 2005 to provide integrated access to services and information (presented and passed by the Equality Committee and Board July 2009).

Accessible Information is concerned with making information available in formats that are accessible to people with a print disability. The policy encompasses:
• print communication;
• College web pages;
• e-Learning;
• person to person communication
• information technology

You can also find further guidance on accessible information, clear print and electronic format documents on the Inclusive Curriculum website.
