Employment Equality Act

The Employment Equality Act prohibits discrimination in employment

The Employment Equality Act came into force in 1998 and was most recently amended in 2015. Cases brought under this Act are generally dealt with by the Workplace Relations Commission.

This act relates to discrimination and harassment based on nine grounds:

  • Age
  • Civil Status
  • Disability
  • Family Status
  • Gender
  • Membership of the Traveller community
  • Race
  • Religion
  • Sexual Orientation

Most employment issues are dealt with by the Employment Equality Act, including (but not limited to):

  • job advertisements
  • recruitment
  • equal pay
  • training
  • contracts
  • promotion
  • dismissal

As an employer, Trinity is bound by the Employment Equality Act and all staff are advised to be aware of its provisions and promote its spirit of fair treatment in their daily business. Further information on workplace discrimination is available from the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission.
