Phase 3: Progressing through College to employment
Due to national and university strategies the number of disabled students participating in third level education has grown significantly. The last decade has seen student numbers rise from four hundred and fifty in 2000 to over six thousand in 2010. Trinity College according to the unpublished AHEAD survey of participation rates of disabled students (2009, 2010) has the highest numbers of disabled students in third level education. Consequently the number of disabled graduates entering the labour market is at unprecedented levels.
Phase 3 addresses personal, occupational and environmental issues disabled student deal with as they prepare for participation in the labour market.
DS will pilot and evaluate the final stage of the Trinity College transition tool developed within the Disability Service to assist disabled students with transition into the world of work and identify issues from an employer’s perspective that arise in the employment of disabled students.
