How Lynda makes learning so easy!

Published May 17th, 2017

It’s a vast library of over 180,000 instructional videos, can be accessed via your TCD sign-on and viewed online, offline, on your laptop or mobile device.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Lynda.com, which is currently being rolled out in a pilot programme across CSD until the end of May, in a joint venture between HR and IT.

Essentially Lynda.com is an online resource which staff can use to build skills in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, project management, communication plus a wide range of other topics.

HR Director Kate Malone takes up the story. “Through a couple of different analyses that have been done – most recently the learning needs analysis – it’s clear that people often don’t have time to take days off and go to training workshops.”

What’s more useful to staff, Kate says, is bite-sized, self-directed learning, that people can dip in and out of. Which is exactly what Lynda.com is.

The rollout of Lynda.com is part of CSD’s strategic plan to build capabilities and to digitally transform the campus. It’s designed to support IT’s launch of Microsoft Office 365 last year and Lynda.com playlists have been created for staff that will help develop competencies in the Microsoft 365 suite of products.

“We are asking people to complete the different courses that we’ve outlined for them in the initial phase,” says Kate. After that staff should feel free to explore the thousands of other courses on offer, covering the latest software, creative and business skills.

This skills-building pilot programme continues until the end of May and CSD employees can easily access the resource by logging on to Lynda.tcd.ie and inputting their network username and password.

Now you’ve no more reasons to be bored on your commute!
