ETC 10 – Evaluation of Eurocode 7

  1. Terms of Reference for period 2006-2009
Following the discussion at the ETC 10 Meeting in Copenhagen on 6th October 2006 and suggestions received from ETC 10 members, the Terms of Reference proposed for ETC 10 for the period 2006-2009 are:
    1. To evaluate the whole geotechnical design process for different geotechnical design situations covered by Parts 1 and 2 of Eurocode 7 by carrying out a number of design examples that involve assessing the ground conditions, selecting characteristic ground parameter values, choosing a calculation model and designing geotechnical structures to satisfy both ultimate and serviceability limit state conditions.
    2. To compare the ways characteristic values are selected, the calculation models chosen and results obtained for the design examples by people from different countries and, where available, from the same country.
    3. To participate in international conferences and activities relating to the evaluation and application of Eurocode 7, such as those listed under 3) below.

  2. List of members
    • Chairman: Trevor Orr (Ireland)
    • Vice-Chairman: Andrew Bond (UK)

  3. Planned activities for 2006-2009
    1. Collect the data from a number of good ground investigations, including in situ test results and laboratory tests results, so as to enable the characteristic parameter values to be selected
    2. Choose a number of different geotechnical design examples for these sites
    3. Distribute the geotechnical data and design examples to the ETC 10 members to be designed
    4. Participate in the ISSMGE Touring Lecture on Eurocode 7 to Croatia in May 2007
    5. Participate with the Danish Geotechnical Society and TC23 in the organisation of a special session in the Spirit of Niels Krebs Ovesen before the ECSMGE in Madrid, September 2007
    6. Participate in Discussion Session 1.1 during the XV ECSMGE in Madrid
    7. Support the First International Symposium on Geotechnical Safety and Risk in Shanghai, October 2007
    8. Organise a Conference on the Application of Eurocode 7 in 2008
    9. Liaise with SC 7 and with the SC7 Maintenance Group for Eurocode 7
