Energy Recovery

The Department are involved in a number of energy recovery projects, specifically focusing on improving the energy efficiency of the water sector. To provide clean drinking water and treat wastewater effluent, the consumpton of energy is required. Water and energy are therefore intertwined and reseearchers working in the Department in the area of the water-energy nexus are examining ways to improve energy efficiency through the development of energy recovery technologies (micro-hydropower and drain water heat recovery) and smart control systems.
