The Centre undertakes multi-disciplinary and policy relevant research into the lives of children and young people, and the contexts within which they live their lives. In its research, the Centre strives to give voice to the experience of children, and in particular, to those who are experiencing various forms of disadvantage. The Centre seeks to work in close collaboration with members of the University, with practitioners and policy makers and with Irish and international colleagues in the field of children's research. It also works in partnership with statutory, voluntary and community bodies concerned with children and young people.
The Centre is a Key Institution of Childwatch International , the prestigious international consortium of research centres in the children's field. It also has strong links with Chapin Hall Centre for Children at the University of Chicago, and with other international policy research centres in the children's field with working links to Chapin Hall. This Network, the International Network of Child Policy Research Centers includes centres in Norway, Spain, Brazil, South Africa, Israel, Jordan, Britain and Northern Ireland. The Centre is a member of the International and Youth Research Network (ICYRNet).
