About the Project
This research aimed to examine homelessness among young people in the Southern Area. The study focused strongly on accessing the experiences and perspectives of young people who were living 'out of home' with a view to enhancing current understanding of their trajectories into, through and out of homelessness. The study identified structural and psychological barriers to service access and utilisation among 'out of home' youth and made policy recommendations related to service provision, early intervention and the prevention of negative health outcomes.
The research was qualitative and conducted life history interviews with approximately 35 young people between the age of 14 and 25 years who were currently living 'out of home'.
Timescale and final products of the research
This research was funded by the Health Service Executive, South. The research report was published in 2007 and in 2008 a briefing paper was prepared.
