BU4541 Financial Markets and the Corporate Sector

Module Content/Outline:
This module examines theory and empirical evidence relating to the interaction between financial markets and the corporate sector. The module is divided into three broad areas:
- corporate investment
- capital markets
- corporate financial structure.

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
- Show a critical understanding of key concepts in finance
- Show a deep understanding of the financing of firms over a financial cycle and across countries
- Analyse current financial issues as they affect the firm
- Apply module concepts learned to contemporary issues in finance
- Evaluate in a critical way contemporary sources of financial information.

Recommended Texts/Key Reading:
There is no overall recommended text rather the student is encouraged to read journal articles. However, several of the areas covered are discussed in a very accessible way in Brealey, Myers, and Allen (2008) Principles of Corporate Finance, 9th Ed.

Students unable to submit a term assignment for medical reasons must produce a medical certificate to the School of Business Studies office within three working days of the missed submission date. Certificates received after that time will not be accepted.
