Dr. Charles J. Larkin is a Lecturer in Economics and Finance at Cardiff Metropolitan University and a Research Associate/Adjunct Lecturer at Trinity Business School.
Dr. Larkin is also special adviser on economic policy matters to Sen. Sean D. Barrett, Seanad Éireann, where he has drafted seven pieces of legislation and contributed to dozens more legislative and regulatory items through amendments and high level discussions with ministers and senior government officials.
Charles' main areas of policy advice are political economy, public policy and IMF bailouts. His main research interest in the legal aspects and political effects of fiscal management has inspired two further themes in his research: on the history of economic thought and on the connections between educational policy and innovation-led growth.
Articles by Dr. Larkin have appeared in The Irish Times, The Sunday Tribune, The Sunday Business Post and Public Affairs Ireland. In addition, he has been a regular commentator on RTÉ Pat Kenny, RTÉ's This Week, Primetime, Morning Ireland, TV3's Nightly News with Vincent Browne and Newstalk's Talking History on matters of the Irish economy, NAMA, the IMF and the future of the US dollar and the parallels between now and the Great Depression. In addition to these wider audiences, Dr. Larkin has presented his research to the Federal Reserve, the Dublin Economic Workshop Kenmare Policy Conference and several international economic and financial conferences. Dr. Larkin is on the organizing committees of the Dublin Economic Workshop policy conference and the INFINITI finance conference, chaired by Prof. Brian Lucey.
