Speaker event - Mark Johnson, founder of UserVoice, "Only Offenders Can Stop Re-Offending"

The School of Business, in association with the Innovation Academy, Enactus and our partners Ashoka Ireland are delighted to announce the first TCD Social Entrepreneurship Speaker Series event for 2013! Mark Johnson, founder of UserVoice.org has a history of serious crime, homelessness and drug abuse. He went through rehabilitation at the age of 29, and since then has become a leading figure in the criminal justice reform movement. Mark's organisation, User Voice, exists to reduce offending. Their work is led and delivered by ex-offenders who foster dialogue between users and providers of services within the criminal justice system. Through democratically elected prison and probation councils, his work is providing ways to enable unheard voices to make a difference, convincing policy-makers and showing dramatic impact. User Voice believes “only offenders can stop re-offending.” Mark's autobiography, Wasted, is a best seller, and he is a regular columnist with the Guardian newspaper. Mark is currently in the process of bringing User Voice to the Irish Prison System.

Speaker event – Sascha Haselmayer

Trinity College Dublin in association with Ashoka Ireland and the Innovation Academy presents SASCHA HASELMAYER elected Ashoka Fellow in 2011, founder of Living Labs Global and CityMart.com.

After studying architecture, Sascha Haselmayer began his career focusing on extreme urban conflict situations, particularly in Soweto, Caracas and Belfast. Seeing the problems here being tackled through activism based around inflexible ideologies, he co-founded Interlace-Invent, a consultancy service for cities looking for innovation. In this TCD Social Entrepreneurship Speaker Series presentation, Sascha will introduce his work and invite students, entrepreneurs and local partners to engage in a new age of service delivery and innovation in Irish cities and towns.

Speaker Event - Dr. Jacline Abray-Nyman

The Centre for Nonprofit Management was delighted to host guest speaker Dr. Jacline Abray-Nyman, Executive Director at Queen's School of Business in Queen's University, Ontario, Canada, who spoke on “Transformational Philanthropy and Networks of Cocreated Value” on 3 February 2012 in the Trinity Long Room Hub.

Dr. Abray-Nyman is an accomplished leader in the public sector with 20 years of demonstrated success in senior roles within Canadian universities. Her research centres on the following questions: Why do donors make transformational donations? What kind of experiences between the donor and the organization result in the donor making transformational donations?

Launch of Fundraising Report with 2 into 3 – Sinead Kelleher and Dennis O'Connor

On Thursday 22 September 2011 the Centre for Nonprofit Management was pleased to host the launch of the Second Annual Report on Fundraising Performance in Ireland, by Sinéad Kelleher and Dennis O'Connor from 2into3. 2into3 is a management consultancy and leadership recruitment professional services firm with a dedicated focus on addressing the needs and challenges of the not-for-profit sector. They brought interesting findings and practical insights to over 100 representatives from not-for-profit organisations across Ireland. The report is available to view on the 2into3 website (www.2into3.com).

The Centre Welcomes New Interns

The Centre ranks were augmented in June 2011 when four former members of the 'Managing Nonprofit Organisations' (MNO) undergraduate course joined us as programme interns. They worked to complete an annual review of the MNO course, co-author a journal article and assist with preparation of a book proposal.  In addition, Jennifer Finn was seconded for the first week of her internship to a neighbouring arts organisation to prepare a report on fundraising for the organisation's Director.

Initiative on Social Entrepreneurship Speaker Series - Betty Nyagoha

The Initiative on Social Entrepreneurship was delighted to host social entrepreneur Betty Nyagoha, Principal of Gatoto Community Primary School on Tuesday 31 May 2011. Betty was speaking to the School's MBA class during their MBA Social Entrepreneurship Week.

Speaker Series - Professor David Billis

The Centre for Nonprofit Management was delighted to host Professor David Billis, London School of Economics, for a seminar on Hybrid Organisations and the Third Sector on Thursday 31st March 2011. The seminar follows on David's publication in 2010 of "Hybrid Organizations and the Third Sector: Challenges for Practice, Theory and Policy".

Mapping of Social Entrepreneurial Enterprises in Ireland Findings

In 2010, the Initiative on Social Entrepreneurship, Trinity College Dublin, carried out exploratory research to examine the characteristics, behaviours and facets of Irish Social Entrepreneurial Enterprises.
