Bite-sized info:
Karel Appel was one of George Dawson's favourite artists, a founding member of the CoBRA group of artists active in the late 1950s and '60s. In 1968, early in the life of the first university art gallery in Ireland - the Exhibition Hall at Trinity College's Berkeley Library - George organised a major exhibition of Karel Appel's works including graphic works.
