FURTHER INFORMATION:

Margaret Corcoran ‘Return to Cythera’ (2014) was the first acquisition under this scheme and is displayed in the Arts Building by the Fellows’ Square entrance.

Our current exhibition in the Arts Building features a selection of the newest artworks in the collections, acquired during this current academic year 2016-17, by various methods, including the Provost’s new scheme.

The first panel introduces five new artists to the collections whose works were recently selected for years 2015 and 2016 of the Provost’s Fund for Contemporary Art.

In 2016, the Provost established the Provost’s Advisory Committee for Art Purchases comprising a team of academic and administrative staff and students, alongside external visual arts experts. In this first year of the committee, proposals were submitted by Dr Yvonne Scott (Committee Chair and Associate Professor, Department of the History of Art) and Catherine Giltrap (Curator of the University Art Collections), both committee members, on which the whole group voted.

In 2017, we eagerly await proposals from all committee members, everyone having had time to view exhibitions, visit artists and to consider how our Visual Arts environment might be further cultivated.
