Freshwater Ecology

The TCD Freshwater Ecology Group, which currently consists of five principal investigators and eight postgraduates, works towards developing a firm understanding of freshwater ecology, with an emphasis on applied research covering a range of anthropogenic impacts, including nutrient additions, sediment loads, and acidification.  This involves quantification of fundamental components and the linking of ecological mechanisms operating within freshwaters and their catchments.  The research fosters an integrated and interdisciplinary approach and spans scales from detailed study of invertebrate feeding behaviour to nutrient movements within entire catchments.  Work covers a range of lake types from shallow eutrophic temperate lakes to large tropical systems - please visit our Freshwater Ecology Group Website page for more information.
