Dr Brendan McHugh

Scientific and Technical Officer, Marine Institute, Galway.

Brendan has overall responsibility for the delivery of core monitoring and research objectives and management of the organic chemistry team including technicians, PhD and MPhil students. Brendan represents Ireland as head of delegation at both the OSPAR-MON (Monitoring and assessment of trends of priority pollutants) and the ad-hoc ICES/OSPAR, WKIMON (Integrated Biological Effects) working groups and is nationally involved in a variety of inter-agency projects related to the assessment of risks/benefits to the consumer of Irish fish produce.  His main research areas include the development of analytical and bioassay methodologies to underpin the collection of quality assured data for environmental monitoring/assessments and consumer safety purposes and also the development of passive sampling methodologies.
