Commencement Fees
Historically, commencement (graduation) fees have been paid after final exams.
From September 2012 undergraduate students in years 3 and above and all postgraduate students are required to pay their commencement fee of €114 prior to registration.
Undergraduate students in severe financial difficulty should apply to their tutor immediately to request extra time to make this payment.
Postgraduate students in severe financial difficulty should apply to the Postgraduate Advisory Service (pgsupp@tcd.ie) immediately with a similar request.
This is a mandatory fee.
FAQS
What is this fee?
This fee covers the cost of your graduation. It is a once-off fee for each degree course.
Is this a new fee?
No. This is an existing fee being collected in a more efficient and timely manner. After discussion with Students’ Unions and at University Council, College decided to streamline and improve the graduation process. E.g. you will now be automatically invited to the appropriate graduation ceremony.
I am not in final year; why do I pay now?
In certain circumstances it is possible for students to graduate with a lower degree. Those students might exit before the final year of their degree programme.
What if I withdraw or fail to complete my degree?
In this case your commencement fee is fully refundable. Postgraduate students who are recommended for an exit diploma will have their commencement fee refunded.
