Change Request - Sophister Pattern & Major/Minor Choices

This page is for students who wish to apply to change their choice of Pattern and/or Major/Minor subjects. The original deadline for submitting your initial choice was 14 December 2012.

Deadlines for Change Request

Main Deadline - Friday 28 June 2013

The main deadline applies to all students who are in College for the full academic year (2012/13) or are sitting annual examinations. These students will be permitted to submit a change request to the TSM Course Office by the close of business at the end of statutory term which is Friday 28 June 2013.

Supplemental Deadline - Friday 20 September 2013

The Supplemental deadline applies to students who participated in a full year Erasmus/Study Abroad exchange or a half year Hilary Term exchange in their JS year (2012/13) and students sitting or deferred to the Supplemental examination session. These students will be permitted to submit a change request to the TSM Course Office by the Friday following the publication of Supplemental results which is Friday 20 September 2013.

IMPORTANT - Please be aware that by submitting this change request form you are not automatically guaranteed your choice. This is subject to departmental approval depending on module requirements, pre-requisites and timetable availability etc. It is your responsibility to check that you are eligible for your choice. Please read the information below before submitting this form. If you prefer you can collect a paper form from the TSM Course Office.

Information for all Junior Sophister Students

Check your eligibility, get information etc:

It is your responsibility to check with your department(s) if any issues affect your eligibility for your choice, prior to submitting your choice, for example some TSM subjects have pre-requisites or JS module requirements for those intending to major in their subject. If you need further general information before making a decision you could contact your department(s), check your subject course handbook, the Careers Advisory Service, your Tutor, etc.

TSM Patterns:

PATTERN A: Both subjects are studied equally for all four years.
PATTERN B: Both subjects are studied equally for the first three years, and one subject only (the Major subject) is studied in the SS year.

PATTERN A or B?
Students on the following combinations can choose either Pattern A or B:
Economics and Geography; Economics and German; Economics and Mathematics; Economics and Sociology; Geography and German; Geography and History; Geography and Mathematics; Geography and Philosophy; Geography and Sociology; Jewish & Islamic Civilisations and German; Philosophy & Mathematics; Philosophy and Sociology; and World Religions & Theology and German.

PATTERN B ONLY:
If you are not on one of the above combinations then you MUST take Pattern B and must choose your major and minor subjects.

TSM JS Exam Regulations 2013

Please note that the TSM JS examination regulations have changed for 2012/13. From this year onwards all TSM JS students modules are assessed the same irrespective of their choice of pattern or major/minor. In Pattern B the weighting between the Major and Minor subjects is now also the same. JS students are therefore now assessed equally and the results are weighted equally. These changes have been made to ensure that all students taking the same module are assessed in the same way and to reflect the actual credits taken by students in the JS year (30 in each subject). Choice Approval and Deadline

The TSM Course Office will seek departmental approval for each student's choice. Please check your subject requirements carefully before submitting your choice. If a department does not give approval for your choice, due to module choice or pre-requisite reasons etc, you will be informed as soon as possible.
Once approved all JS TSM choices are sent to the Examinations Office/Student Records Office. If you are thinking about submitting a change request we recommend you submit this sooner rather than later, eg for Departmental planning reasons etc.
