Therapy Group

Title: Trinity College SCS Therapy Group

From: Tuesday, 17th January 2012.

Time: 6:00 – 7.30pm

Venue : Group Room, SCS, 3rd Floor, Trinity College, 7-9 Sth. Leinster Street, Dublin 2.

Facilitator: Angie McLaughlin

Content: The Therapy group at Trinity College SCS involves a group of up to ten students working with a group facilitator (counsellor) in weekly therapy sessions. There is no limit to the number of group sessions each member can attend and this is decided on based on individual need. Group Therapy is a highly respected method of helping people address a wide range of emotional distress such as depression, self esteem difficulties or discomfort in relationships. The characteristics of group therapy, enables a type of interaction that is not possible in one to one counselling.

Recognise the nature of depression and how negative thinking patterns can lower mood and impact on our daily functioning. Explore some strategies around thinking, feelings and behaviour aimed at managing mood and identifying alternative coping styles.

You will have the opportunity to choose from a range of coping strategies, those which best suit you. Then you can develop a personal resilience profile for the challenges that may lie ahead.

Content : Learn how to alert ourselves to signs of anxiety and what types of anxiety we may experience. Explore how avoidance and some coping strategies may reinforce anxiety. Understand how anxiety provoking ideas and beliefs can increase stress and anxiety. Explore cognitive, behavioural and stress reduction strategies aimed at overcoming anxiety.

Title: Nutrition, Body Image, Eating disorders

Content : Learn about healthy eating. Identify eating distress in self or others. Explore coping skills and learn where to access further help.
