Welcome to the PALNET website
Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) describes a cooperative learning process in which students support the learning of other students with the aim of consolidating understanding, improving study strategies, and adjusting to higher education.
There are various models of PAL used in Ireland. They generally involve more senior students facilitating the learning of small groups of first year students on a similar course.
Several PAL programmes have been established in Irish higher education institutes. The network was formed to provide an opportunity for PAL practitioners to discuss relevant issues and to enable individuals interested in setting up a programme to obtain information and assistance. It received funding from an HEA Strategic Initiative to promote this objective.
This website is a forum for further communication and offers resources for academics and students interested in PAL.
