TRINITY SPORTS CENTRE ACHIEVES WHITE FLAG AWARD

Trinity Sports Centre staff were well represented at the recent ILAM Annual Awards to receive the White Flag Standard. This is a Leisure Industry Quality Mark and is co-ordinated by ILAM - the Irish leisure industry employers body which represents gyms, leisure centres, sports, fitness, aquatic & outdoor facilities.

The White Flag is the only comprehensive quality award and measurement of standards for gyms, swimming pools and leisure amenities in Ireland. The highly sought after Award, which is now in its eleventh year, is an essential quality mark that every swimming pool, sports hall, fitness studio and gym facility in Ireland must strive to achieve and its presence is critical, in the absence of any government legislation.

The assessment addressed 3 key areas:

- Safety
- Hygiene, Maintenance and Environmental
- Customer Services

The process is judged by an independent jury made up of experts from a number of nationally recognised organisations including Failte Ireland, the HSE, the Irish Hotels Federation, Consumer Association, Swim Ireland and Irish Water Safety. Judging is thorough and rigorous ensuring that fitness, gym instructors and lifeguards are fully qualified, facilities are safe, clean and hygienic, and that equipment is maintained correctly.

Trinity College is currently the only third level institution in Ireland to hold the award and reflects the high standards of delivery and provision employed by the Centre for students and other users.

The pictures below show staff member Helen Sherwin receiving the award on behalf of Trinity Sports Centre and the 'Trinity Team' celebrating the achievement.
