Sports Centre building works (update two)

Published: 4th May 2017

As announced last month, Trinity Sport is continuing with works to enhance the areas and services delivered in the Sports Centre, with a large scale reconfiguration project commencing this month.

The aim of the works is to redevelop the entrance and reception area, allowing us to increase capacity in the main gym area and enhance the customer experience.

In addition, some unused first floor space will be reconfigured to create a new group personal training space for users. Club lockers, currently located beside the staff common room, will be relocated elsewhere in the building to facilitate this.

Work on this exciting project is due to begin on May 16/17 and is expected to continue for approximately 12 weeks. As always, we want to keep you, our users, informed every step of the way. So throughout the process we will be posting regular weekly updates on our website and social media channels. If you have a specific query you can also get in touch with us directly by emailing Sport Service & Experience Manager Eamon Cusack on eamon.cusack@tcd.ie.

A brief overview of the project is as follows:

Gym/reception

  • Areas of main works to be screened off for duration of project (including separate contractor entrance).
  • Reduced sized temporary reception to be established elsewhere on ground floor entrance area.
  • Alteration to method of member card access into the centre.
  • Alteration to universal access route provided into gym area.
  • No access to ground floor toilets while work is being carried on.
  • Due to the nature of the work involved we are anticipating increased noise levels.

1st floor area

  • Areas of main works to be screened off for duration of project.
  • Due to the nature of the work involved we are anticipating increased noise levels.
  • There will be no access to the corridor leading to club lockers at the staff common room. These will be relocated elsewhere in the Sports Centre and duty managers will be in contact with affected clubs.

While there will be an amount of disruption as a result of the upgrade, here in Trinity Sport we’ll endeavour to ensure interruption to customers’ regular routines is limited. It’s a bit like exercise - just think of it as short-term pain for long-term gain!
