Barry Andrews MEP talks to Peace Studies students on UN role in development and peace
Barry Andrews MEP gave a candid talk to students on the MPhil In International Peace Studies, on March 25. Mr Andrews, who as well as being an MEP, is also the former CEO of the international NGO, GOAL, was invited by Dr Etain Tannam to share his views of the role of the UN in development and peace, as well as the relationship between the UN and the EU in human rights. During his talk, Mr Andrews also shared his experience and views of the war in Gaza. A warm thank you to Barry Andrews - much appreciated by all in Peace Studies.
Dr Carlo Aldrovandi publishes in The Conversation on increased tensions during Ramadan
Dr. Carlo Aldrovandi recently wrote an article for The Conversation about the possibility of increased tensions in Jerusalem and the West Bank during the holy month of Ramadan. The article also discusses the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas and the lack of progress in reaching a negotiated ceasefire. TCD secures a Funding Award supported by the John Templeton Foundation: Equipping Christian Ministry in an Age of Science (ECLAS).
Trinity College Dublin is one of four theological colleges in the UK and Ireland awarded funding (up to £60,000) to develop teaching resources incorporating science, ethics, and theology. The ECLAS (embed the link to the ECLAS announcement as a .pdf here) project is based at St John‘s College, Durham University and supported by a generous grant from the John Templeton Foundation (2023-27). The Head of the School of Religion, Theology and Peace Studies, Prof Gillian Wylie and the Director of the Church of Ireland Theological Institute, Dr Maurice Elliott, said: ‘We are delighted to have been selected for this Science for Seminaries funding award. Our project, led by Prof Cathriona Russell, aims to enrich the current initiatives in teaching theology in an age of science through integrated teaching on novel, original and creative developments in the sciences in tandem with practicing empirical scientists, on our Masters Programs in ministry, and in theology and religion in the humanities.’ Click here for more details.

Dr Browne joined TRT’s host, Enda Brady to discuss the controversy surrounding the decision made by Irish political figures to travel to the White House at a time when many believe there to be active United States government support for the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian population in Gaza.
