Update: 30 April 2008
We have been working on a paper that compares output in politics scholarship based on citations, as measured by three leading external citation-tracking data sources. These are Thomson Scientific’s Web of Science (the Social Science Citation Index), Scopus, and Google Scholar. A very preliminary draft of our paper that described the data collection, and presents preliminary analysis, can be found here:
Previously we had posted a table of the complete data used for this paper in order that individuals might use it to verify that their own information was correct. We posted this data not to represent an end-point analysis, but rather to allow individuals and units included in the analysis an opportunity their own data. We will happily provide data on an individual upon request. Please e-mail requests to our research assistant for this project, Séin Ó Muineacháin, to request the exact data. You may also send corrections to Sein and we will use them to update our dataset.
A lively discussion has emerged following the initial data-gathering, including some public letters written to us by other units. The discussion and our response to these letters can be viewed here.
