A degree, whether undergraduate or postgraduate, from Trinity College Dublin is recognised nationally and internationally as a mark of quality. Trinity is Ireland's leading university, and the Department of Political Science is especially highly regarded; in the 2016 QS rankings it was rated number 1 in Ireland, number 15 in Europe and number 43 in the world for 'Politics and International Studies'. The Department of Political Science at Trinity College Dublin offers two outstanding postgraduate programmes:
The M.Sc. in International Politics offers graduate students a combination of rigorous training in the study of international politics with a comprehensive empirical approach to understanding many prominent problems in contemporary world politics, especially topics where domestic and international politics cannot be understood in isolation from each other. These topics include democratisation, international cooperation, development and foreign aid, and international conflict, as well as the politics of many environmental issues and their implications for the politics of developing countries.
(2) PhD Programme
This is a creative departure from the traditional PhD offered elsewhere in much of Europe and is designed to produce rigorously trained, widely-read and well-rounded political scientists, able to take their place in the forefront of the profession.
