  I am involved in both teaching and research.

  • Research

    My current research involves three main threads:
    1. study of symbiotic binary stars using a combination of space-based and ground-based instrumentation
    
    
    
    2. measurement and study of the emission and absorption line spectra of active galactic nuclei
    
    
    
    3. development of emission line diagnostics for 1) and 2) above
       
       
    4. application of intelligent software to the interrogation and analysis of large astronomical databases

    • 1983: B.A. (Mod.) in Experimental Physics (University of Dublin)
      
      
    • 1990: Ph.D. in Astronomy (University of Cambridge)

    • May 1998 - Oct. 2001: ESA Assistant Astronomer at the Space Telescope Science Institute, Baltimore, Maryland, USA.
