Professor Erwin Schrödinger delivered the first in his series of three lectures entitled

'WHAT IS LIFE?'

on Friday February 5th 1943, in the Physical Laboratory Lecture Theatre, Trinity College Dublin.

The Schrödinger Lecture Series

was inaugurated on Wednesday December 6th 1995 in the refurbished Erwin Schrödinger Theatre, with a lecture entitled

'From Magnetism to Eigenvalues - Scientific Links Dublin-Vienna'
by Professor Hans Kirchmayer of the Technische Universität Vienna.

in the presence of H.E. The Austrian Ambassador, the Provost of Trinity College, and an invited audience.

To mark the occasion, the Physics Department was presented with a print of the portrait of Schrödinger on the Austrian 1000 schilling bank note by H.E. The Austrian Ambassador, and with Sean Keating's portrait of Schrödinger by Professor J.T. Lewis of the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.
