`The Day I Split the Atom'
Walton's memories of the historic day
In 1982 a conference on 'The Neutron and its Applications' was held in Cambridge and organised by the Institute of Physics. Walton spoke at the commemorative session on the first day of the conference, 13th September, and recalled how he first discovered that the experiment had been successful and the atom (more correctly the nucleus) had been split.
The Institute of Physics recorded the session, and have given their permission
for the inclusion on this page of an audio clip of part of Walton's talk.
