Welcome Alumni
It is the intention of the School of Physics to better connect with our alumni. I won't pretend that our motives in this are wholly altruistic. The plain truth is that College is increasingly reliant on non-government support, and The Provost has asked individual schools and disciplines to become involved in that effort.
The main medium of this effort will be electronic, either via our dedicated webpage www.tcd.ie/Physics/alumni or through the email listing of Trinity Foundation; in the latter regard, I would encourage you to update your email address at www.tcd.ie/alumni/frontgateonline.
For now, I would like to draw your attention to the following three areas on our site:
Newsletter: Issue 1 of our annual newsletter gives a snapshot of 2012 as well as information about our future plans.
Class of...? Class photographs (1975 onwards) have been digitised for display. We would be glad to display private class photographs pre-1975.
Fundraising Projects. We have identified three Physics-related projects that alumni might wish to support. They are the Walton sculpture, the new appointment to the Erasmus Smith Chair, and the Irish Low Frequency Array radio telescope. Non-specific support for general activity is also welcome.
In seeking your support for these projects we are asking for help in two distinct directions. First, personal contributions will be most gratefully acknowledged. Equally, it may be that among your various connections (business, social, etc) there are philanthropists who may be non-physicists but who might be interested in supporting the premier School of Physics in Ireland. We are hoping that you might help spread that message. If you have any suggestions in that respect, please don't hesitate to contact me at iggy.mcgovern@tcd.ie.
