Dr. Karsten Fleischer |
Karsten Fleischer graduated at the Technische Universität Berlin in 1999. His PhD was awarded in 2005 at the same University for his work on linear optical properties of metal nanowires formed by selforganising processes on semiconducting substrates. Parts of that work were done during a Marie-Curie fellowship at the Universitá "Tor Vergata" in Rome.

| Since 2005 he is an IRCSET Postgraduate Fellow working in the group of Prof. McGilp at the Trinity College. Here he is continuing the work on metal nanowires focussing on their metallic properties and the influence of protective caps on them. Optical techniques such as reflectance anisotropy are used as well as second harmonic generation (SHG) since both techniques are particularly sensitive to surfaces and interfaces and capable of probing buried interfaces. The latter technique also provides a way to probe the nonlinear magneto-optic properties of the nanowires which makes investigations of the interactions of the magnetic nanowire (e.g. Fe wires on W(110)) with the protective cap possible. |
