Prof. Iggy McGovern

graduated in Physics from Queen’s University, Belfast and obtained a PhD in Physics, also from Queen’s. He has been in the Physics Department of TCD since 1979, having previously been at the Universities of Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. He has over 80 peer-reviewed publications in surface science, specialising in synchrotron radiation techniques. He has been Director of Advanced Materials at TCD, Chairman of the Institute of Physics in Ireland and Chairperson of the Thin Films & Surfaces Group of the Institute of Physics.

He has been Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the Fritz-Haber-Institut, Visiting Fellow at Magdalen College , Oxford and Distinguished Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies in La Trobe University, Melbourne.
