For the academic year 2016-2017 the regulations governing the choice of modules for Senior Sophister students are changing. The new regulations can be found below.

  • SHP The work for this year consists of seminars, a thesis, and a general paper. Students are required to choose TWO seminars at 10 ECTS (one in each term) and FOUR seminars at 5 ECTS (two in each term), for a total of 40 ECTS. The thesis is worth 15 ECTS, and the General Paper is worth 5 ECTS. Thus there are a total of 60 ECTS for the year.
  • TSM (pattern B Major) The work for this year consists of seminars, a thesis, and a general paper.
  • TSM (pattern A) Students have the option EITHER to do a thesis along with three seminars OR to do a general paper along with five seminars.
    1. Students choose TWO seminars for MT and ONE seminar for HT. Each seminar is worth 5 ECTS, so the seminars are with 15 ECTS overall. The thesis is worth 15 ECTS. Thus there are a total of 30 ECTS for the year.
    2. Students choose THREE seminars for MT and TWO seminar for HT. Each seminar is worth 5 ECTS, so the seminars are with 25 ECTS overall. The general paper is worth 5 ECTS. Thus there are a total of 30 ECTS for the year.
  • PPES Philosophy (Single) The work for this year consists of seminars, a thesis, and a general paper.
  • PPES Philosophy (Joint) Students choose TWO seminars for MT and ONE seminar for HT. Each seminar is worth 5 ECTS, so the seminars are with 15 ECTS overall. The thesis is worth 15 ECTS. Thus there are a total of 30 ECTS for the year.

Each seminar takes place once a week over a single term. Students taking a seminar are expected to prepare work in advance and to take an active role in discussion (including, for some seminars, being prepared to read out a discussion-starting paper during the seminar).

Part of the assessment for each seminar will be by means of an essay (or two essays, in the case of 10 ECTS seminars). For guidance on when the essays must be submitted, please consult the SS essay submission dates.
