Module Content
Is there a right to private property? Is the notion of private property compatible with political values such a liberty, equality and social justice? Do states have property rights to their territories and natural resources? This course will focus on influential theories of property, from ancient philosophy to contemporary approaches, as well as philosophical issues concerning the notion of property and ownership.
Learning Outcomes
Having successfully completed this module, students will be able to:
- understand influential theories of property in the history of political philosophy and in the contemporary debate;
- engage critically with the theories and assess their strengths and weaknesses.
