College Tutors

As a unique provision among Irish universities, Trinity College provides each student with a College Tutor. The role of the tutor, who is not typically from the student's discipline or department is pastoral rather than academic. The student is invited to stay in regular contact with the Tutor, and will seek out the Tutor's assistance especially if he or she encounters a difficulty or problem, of any nature or magnitude, relating to his or her academic or personal life. The tutor will then either advise the student directly or refer him or her to the variety of College support services. The interaction between student and Tutor is confidential, and the Tutor acts as advocate for the student and as mediator between the student and his or her department.
