Dublin Postgraduate Research Seminar
A central aspect of the Dublin Graduate Philosophy Programme is the weekly Postgraduate Research Seminar. The seminars usually take place on Tuesday evenings and the venue alternates between TCD and UCD. At each session a graduate student enrolled in the Dublin Graduate Philosophy Programme is given the opportunity to present a paper on the topic of his or her research. Please visit the Graduate Research Seminar page for the most up–to–date list of speakers, topics and venues.
Purpose
The main purpose of the Seminar is to provide Ph.D. students with the opportunity to develop their presentation skills and to receive feedback on their work from both their peers and the Philosophy faculty of TCD and UCD. Students should discuss their work with their supervisor prior to their presentation. If at all possible the student's supervisor will attend the seminar.
Format
Presentations should be no longer than 45 minutes. Ideally the paper should reflect the research in which the student is engaged. The paper may be part of a chapter of written work, or a discussion of a particular article or problem the student has been puzzling over.
Requirement
Please note that all students enrolled in the Dublin Graduate Philosophy Programme are required to attend each of the seminars regardless of location and/or topic. Furthermore, it is expected that every student enrolled in the Dublin Graduate Philosophy Programme will give at least one paper at the Research Seminar each year that he or she is enrolled in the Programme.
