Dublin Graduate Philosophy Programme
The Dublin Graduate Philosophy Programme is a collaboration between the Department of Philosophy, Trinity College Dublin, and the School of Philosophy, University College Dublin. Begun in 2009 it brings together the strengths of these two internationally significant departments into a single graduate school.
One of the primary purposes of the Programme is to provide a high–quality taught component. In the first year of the Ph.D. students enrolled in both institutions are required to take graduate courses. Students must take at least two courses at their home institution and at least one course in the department of the institution in which they are not enrolled. This gives graduate students the opportunity to engage with and contribute to ongoing philosophical research projects.
In addition to the didactic element, the programme also coordinates a variety of events throughout the academic year. The weekly Graduate Philosophy Research Seminar is a venue at which graduate students may present their most recent work in order to receive feedback from their peers and faculty in both departments. The annual Dublin Graduate Philosophy Conference is organised jointly by graduate students from TCD and UCD and attracts a large number of high–calibre participants each year.
One of the distinctive features of this partnership is its capacity to provide students with a comprehensive training in both the analytic and contemporary European philosophical traditions, as well as providing students with the opportunity to work with experts in a wide range of topics in the history of philosophy.
