Deirdre Madden B.A. (Dublin), M.A. (East Anglia) Assistant Professor in Creative Writing

Deirdre Madden is a novelist.

She studied English as an undergraduate in Trinity, and did an MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia, where her tutors were Malcolm Bradbury and Angela Carter. She returned to Trinity in 2007 as Writer Fellow. She has published seven novels, including The Birds of The Innocent Wood, Authenticity, and most recently, Molly Fox's Birthday. She has also published two novels for children. She has won awards for her work, including the Rooney Prize, the Hennessy Award and the Somerset Maugham Award. She was twice shortlisted for the Orange Prize. Her work has been widely anthologised, and has been translated into several languages including French, German, Swedish and Bulgarian. She is a member of Aosdána.

Since 2004 she has taught creative writing on the MPhil course in the Oscar Wilde centre. She also teaches creative writing to undergraduates as a senior sophister option.
