Undergraduate Courses
The School of Nursing and Midwifery was established in September 1996 to provide undergraduate and post-graduate nursing and midwifery programmes and has become established as the largest School of Nursing and Midwifery in the country, with the highest numbers of undergraduate and research students. We offer a range of programmes and potential study pathways - all relevant to the needs of those seeking a career in health services.
The School aims to provide leadership in multi-professional healthcare research, education and practice at local, national and international levels. We strongly support the principle of equal access, and encourage all students and staff to achieve their full potential within an open, liberal and facilitative environment. The ethos of the School is one that sees the patient/client as the primary focus. We also seek to make a major contribution to evidence-based, high quality health care on the Island of Ireland and abroad, and achieve this through excellence in the provision of teaching for pre and post-registration nurses and midwives and in the conduct of world-class research.
Learning is orientated toward clinical practice, professional development and personal growth. Students are facilitated to become articulate, creative, analytical, reflective and self directed. The degree programmes encourage lifelong learning, which will continue throughout the career of the student. The programmes are ultimately aimed at facilitating the development of knowledge, skills, attitudes and professional values necessary for safe, competent and caring professional nursing and midwifery practice.

- Midwifery 4 years
- Children's General Nursing (integrated) 4.5 years
- General Nursing 4 years
- Intellectual Disability Nursing 4 years
- Psychiatric Nursing 4 years
